Social Learning & Executive Functioning

I am committed to supporting children, teens, and young adults with social learning challenges and executive functioning challenges to navigate the complex social norms and expectations in home, school, and work settings. Over the past 15 years, I have used a team approach which involves communicating regularly with parents, teachers, school staff, and psychologists to provide holistic care for my clients.

I ran Social Thinking groups at the Social Thinking - Stevens Creek Clinic and trained under the guidance of Michelle Garcia Winner and Pamela Crooke for four years. I am also passionate about serving marginalized communities with social learning challenges and provide consultation to Michelle and Pam through their Social Thinking and Underserved Communities advisory committee. In addition to providing therapy, I am also a lecturer at CSUF where I have provided guest lectures for graduate students on neurodiversity affirming care.

Bilingual & Bicultural Communication Development

Over the past 10 years, I have served clients from various different cultural backgrounds and strive to provide speech therapy with cultural humility. I inquire about home languages and family values during my sessions to improve communication for each individual and family. Understanding cultural norms is critical to our ability to effectively socialize and communicate with others.

I am dedicated to promoting bilingual language development and functional communication for my clients. In my work with early intervention, I have consulted with caregivers to combat myths about the negative beliefs around multilingual parenting, clarify information regarding typical bilingual language development and language delays (i.e., multilingualism does not cause language delays!), and share tips and strategies for raising bilingual and bicultural children. While providing speech therapy for older multilingual adults with histories of strokes, dementia, and/or traumatic brain injuries, I have worked with families to gather information about languages used in daily activities to create individualized augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies.     .
